Welcoming the United Kingdom to the CPTPP
July 16, 2023
The Indo-Pacific is the fastest growing economic region in the world, and the CPTPP not only opens doors to the region, but lays out a pathway to sustainable and inclusive rules-based trade, this means more opportunities for Canadian businesses.
Yesterday, Canada welcomed the U.K. as the CPTPP’s newest member! With the U.K. accession, the CPTPP will now represent just under 16% of the of the global economy, and represent over 580 million consumers worldwide.
Just three years after the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership entered into force, Canada's trade with all CPTPP partners has grown to reach $124B - this agreement helps Canadian businesses grow abroad, and creates jobs at home!
Thank you to Damien O’Connor for your hospitality and leadership at this year's meeting in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand!
