As the Member of Parliament for Markham-Thornhill, one of Canada’s most diverse communities, I see firsthand the strength of inclusiveness and the importance of celebrating our differences.

This is particularly clear as we come together during Tamil Heritage Month. Throughout this month, Canadians recognize and celebrate the many contributions that Tamil-Canadians have made to communities across the country.

Through out January I had the honour and privilege to attend attend events celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Canadians.

For decades, Tamil-Canadians have chosen Canada to share their culture and talents and we are a more vibrant country because of this.

January 14

I joined the Tamil Community in Markham Thornhill to celebrate Thai Pongal at the  Canada Sri Ayyappan Hindu Temple.

January 26

For generations, Tamil-Canadians have made significant contributions to our communities and our economy. The Tamil Entrepreneurs Organisation supports entrepreneurs and business leaders who are new to Canada by creating connections and opportunities. I had some great discussions with young entrepreneurs. I also elaborated on the programs and policies our government has introduced to help and young entrepreneurs grow and succeed.

From celebrating Thai-Pongal in my riding, Markham-Thornhill, to meetingTamil-Canadians at the National Council of Canadian’s Annual Dinner, I have learned so much more about this vibrant community and the organizations that work hard to preserve Tamil culture and language for the generations to come.
