Supporting Indigenous Entrepreneurs
May 30, 2024
Yesterday, I joined @tiarabeth for a conversation on supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs, exporters, and innovators at the Economic Reconciliation Summit hosted by @can2020.
Did you know?
• There are 50,000 Indigenous-owned businesses that contribute over $30 billion to Canada’s economy annually.
• Indigenous women entrepreneurs make up 39.3% of all Indigenous exporters, which is more than double the percentage of women-owned exporters out of all Canadian small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
• Canada is part of the Indigenous People Economic and Trade Cooperation Agreement (IPECTA) alongside Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan, with the USA as an observer economy.
• IPECTA is a non-binding, economic-focused, cooperation-based and results-oriented agreement that is Indigenous-led and government enabled; it means working together to support indigenous businesses.
