Supporting Families

Whether it is implementing a national childcare program, providing dental care for children under 12, or enhancing community buildings and parks, our government is committed to well-rounded approaches to supporting families.

Investing in early learning and child care offers a jobs-and-growth hat trick: it provides jobs for workers, the majority of whom are women; it enables parents, particularly mothers, to reach their full economic potential; and it creates a generation of engaged and well prepared young learners. We continue to have Canadian families' backs by:

  • Supporting Canadian families with the Canada child benefit, which has helped lift 435,000 children out of poverty by giving more money, tax-free, to 9 out of 10 families.
  • Continuing our progress towards an early learning and child care system that meets the needs of Indigenous families, wherever they live, with an investment of $2.5 billion over the next five years.
  • Providing $5.3 billion over five years, starting in 2022-23, and $1.7 billion ongoing to provide dental care for Canadians. This will help families and seniors with an annual income of less than $90,000 access much needed dental care.
