Canada and Poland's Flourishing Trade and Nuclear Energy Partnerships
July 2, 2024
Bilateral trade between Canada and Poland has flourished across multiple sectors under the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Trade Agreement (CETA). In 2023, trade reached nearly $4 billion, marking a 72% increase from pre-CETA levels in 2016.
Poland has a dynamic and innovative economy. During my recent visit,  I had constructive meetings with key leaders including the Minister of Industry, and State Assets, Marzena Czarnecka and Secretary of State for Economic Development and Technology, Jacek Tomczak - focusing on building on the success of our trading relationship.
Canada is a global leader in nuclear energy and I witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between Canadian firms Aecon Group Inc and AtkinsRéalis with Poland’s ORELN Synthos Green Energy (OSGE). Together they teaming up with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy to deploy the first of a fleet of BWRX-300 reactors by the end of this decade, starting with a small modular reactor (SMR) project in Stawy Monowskie, Małopolska.
These partnerships underscore the trust and shared vision for energy security and economic prosperity between Canada and Poland.
